What is the Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided to schools so that they can support their disadvantaged students to close gaps in progress and attainment with their peers.
The Pupil Premium is paid to schools based on the number of students who:

Have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years (known as ‘Ever 6 FSM’)

Have previously been in care (know as ‘Pupil Premium Plus’)

Are children of service personnel
Pupil Premium funding is also provided to the Local Authority for those students who are registered with them as being in care.

How many Students are eligible for Pupil Premium at Horizon Community College?

The funding is not a personal budget for individual students, and schools are not required to spend funding on all eligible students. What has been the impact of our Pupil Premium strategy?
Horizon’s Pupil Premium Attainment 8 score for 2023 was 4.1. This means that, on average, our Pupil Premium students achieved at least a Grade 4 in each of their qualifications. In comparison, the 2022 national average Pupil Premium Attainment 8 score was 3.8.
Horizon’s Pupil Premium Progress 8 score for 2023 was -0.02. In comparison, the 2022 national average Pupil Premium Progress 8 score was -0.55, while the 2023 national average Progress 8 score for all students was -0.03. This score will have placed our Pupil Premium students in the top 25% of the country for progress in 2023.
The attendance of our Pupil Premium students across the Autumn and Spring Terms of the 2022-23 academic year was 89.7%. This was above the national average Pupil Premium attendance figure of 89.1% but slightly below the national average for all students of 92.3%.
Finally, in terms of students leaving Horizon in the summer of 2023, 100% of our Pupil Premium students have taken up a place in education, employment, and training.
Who leads on the progress of Pupil Premium students at Horizon Community College? Mr Fletcher
Mr Fletcher leads on the progress of our Pupil Premium students. He is a member of the Quality of Education Team and has a responsibility for Raising Achievement within college. He works with teachers and support staff to ensure our Pupil Premium students are able to realise their potential and are prepared for post-16 life.
